Are Gunnar glasses worth it?

My gunnars
Gunnar glasses I've been using for a year
For those that don't know what Gunnar glasses are: They are glasses that are made for being worn when dealing with computer (looking on screen). They increase contrast of what you're looking on screen, enhance detail, decrease eye fatigue, improves focus and improve visual endurance (for long gaming sessions or long work with computer).
That is what the producer states. But is it true and does it make them worth their money (prices vary from around 60$+)?

Before keep on talking let me say that I've been having gunnars for about a year. I got them as a present and they still serve me well. They cost around 100$ + shipment (I am not entirely sure, because I didn't buy them, but I think it was something like that).

Back to the question.
From my own experience I can say that when you put them on you literally see the difference, because of the slightly yellow lenses. Although they don't make a ground breaking difference in things such as gaming, they definitely make you look cooler and they do enhance your vision a bit.

If I am having long game sessions (rarely, though) they do make a difference so I wear them, but I don't put them on for a quick facebook check or something like that.

If you are gamer that uses computer a lot (few hours a day) then I would recommend you checking their website for additional info (http://www.gunnars.com/)
I also got Logitech G35 headset and they fit well with it, so no problem with that :)

I can't say much about improving focus, because I can see (if I focus my look) single pixels on my laptop (with or without gunnars), but statement that they improve contrast is, from my experience, true.

So, as said, if you use computer quite a lot I would recommend them to you. On the other hand, if you use computer just for watching movies, checking facebook etc. they still do their job, but their purpose is, in my opinion, not fulfilled. You can also consider gunnars as a gift for someone you know that will be more than happy to wear them (maybe as a christmas gift).

Price? You can get gaming models for around 60$ and up (depends whether there are sales going on or not). Decide for yourself but it is one time purchase for glasses you can wear "until you broke them", so I don't think it is too much.

Note:

No matter if you wear your gunnars or not you can follow these steps for "not ruining your eyes so much" while using computer:

  • Look into object around 6 meters (20 feet) away every 20 minutes for 20 seconds
  • Keep your screen clean so your eyes don't need to try hard to focus things on it
  • Adjust the contrast and brightness that fits your eyes best
  • Room you're working in shouldn't be too dark or too bright

If you still have any question regarding gunnar glasses and my experience with them, leave me a comment.

Top 5 most wanted games of Fall & Winter 2013

Fall is coming and with it some of the most anticipated games of this year. Since there are a lot of great games coming and I don't know which one is the best, the following order is random (release dates are for PC)

Assassins Creed: Black Flag (Q4 2013)
This part of Assassins Creedtakes place in the times of pirates. We will be able to explore islands, drive with ships and fight eith them + do all the cool things we were able to do so far. I think this is closest game to how it would look like if you could play movie Pirates from Caribbean. Check trailer below:

Call of Duty: Ghosts (5.11.2013)
Fast paced action - seems like another Call of Duty (you will be able to slide and lean + they were mentioning dynamic maps). If you liked Black Ops 2 I think you will like Ghosts too. I need to say, that I hope next Cod will be take place in WW II. instead of modern warfare (All the CoDs from CoD 4 on are placed in modern warfare). Trailers look preety good though:

Grand Theft Auto (17.9.2013 - but not (yet) for PC :| )
Imagine open world where you can do almost anything: stock trading, riding bike, playing tennis or golf, parachuting, driving planes, quad driving ... + Map will be bigger than Red Dead Redemption, San Andreas and GTA IV combined! This could be game of the year.
Game is not yet announced for PC - I really hope it will be.

Check it for yourself: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N-xHcvug3WI

Battlefield 4 (29.10.2013)
Bringing back the commander, levolutionizing the battle and big scale all out warfare. Flying a jet, driving a heli, shooting with tank or playing as infanty: I think this game will feel epic and fun.

Watch Dogs (19.11.2013)
Reminds me of GTA V, but on much more dramatical way. You play in an open world as a guy, that can monitor and hack into city's network (traffic lights, electricity, fire alarms) which helps him on his path to revenge ...  It really looks interesting.

How to logout of Steam

If you ever wondered how to logout of Steam, this is the perfect article for you. And well, I know this question is really weird, but you wouldn't believe that it took me quite some time to figure that out (for my first time).

So let's get to the topic:

  • On top right click Steam, then Change User
  • Window should pop up and then all you need to do is click Logout
Well it's not that hard to do is it? But beacuse there is no Logout button straight away, a lot of people can get confused, beacuse they are just not used to it. So I hope you guys now know how to logout of Steam :)

For those that maybe got different Steam skins or if you have any other reason, I also posted 2 pictures explaining it:

What did EA profit from Humble Origin Bundle?

So, a week ago there was an special offer at Humble Bundle (What is Humble Bundle?) that included 8 EA games:

  • Mass Effect
  • Mass Effect 3
  • Burnout Paradise
  • Mirror's Edge
  • Crysis 2
  • Medal of Honor
  • Battlefield 3
  • Sims 3
So you pay 1$ and you get 6 awesome games, but if you pay more than average (around 5$) you also got BF3 and Sims 3. Very nice, isn't it?

You could decide how much you want to pay and then split that money into different cuts for different organizations. But there wasn't an option to actually give that money to developers of the games.
Since all the money went into charity or as a tip to Humble Bundle, EA didn't get a single dollar from that offer. My question is: How did EA profit from that bundle?

EA won an worst American company award (or something like that, I am not entirely sure) and it's reputation among gamers isn't the best. I think we all know that they are known as a "greedy" company - which has been shown by various offers from their side (getting game for cheap or regular price, but not with all the features - they can only be bought for more money. That pisses a lot of people).

So, with this Bundle they regained some of their reputation.

Games on the list were not the "hottest" titles, which means that they "life span" was approaching the end, which means that number of people that were buying that games were very small or decreasing drastically (Medal of Honor was made in 2010, Battlefield in 2011, Crysis 2 in 2009 and so on ...).
What I am trying to say is that "nobody" was actually buying these games and they didn't have any loss of giving it out for free (Don't forget that if you bought the games on Humble Bundle you got serial key, with which you could download the game - no physical CDs, manuals, boxes (which cost). All they had to pay for was electricity for servers from which you downloaded the games).

Last but not least, with that they've expanded Origin user base (Steam is far more popular than Origin, so they tried to do something here too). And more people you have in your user base, more people you can advertise too.
Also, if you never played Crysis and then within Humble Origin Bundle, you tried it and liked it - it's more likely that you will buy Crysis 3 too.

So, as you can see there are lots of thing that EA gained from this bundle. What can I say? Great job EA, keep it up and I hope we will see more offers like this in future.
